Andhra Pradesh Water Bill Calculator – VMC / Municipal Rates 2026
In Andhra Pradesh, water supply and billing is the responsibility of each city’s Urban Local Body (ULB) — meaning the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, Tirupati Nagar Palika, and others each maintain their own tariff schedules. There is no single statewide rate. However, the tariff structures across major AP cities are broadly similar, making it possible to give a reasonable estimate that works for most urban consumers in the state.
This calculator uses a tariff structure representative of major Andhra Pradesh municipalities including Vijayawada VMC, which is one of the largest and best-documented billing systems in the state.

How Water Billing Works in Andhra Pradesh
Most urban AP households with functional connections are on a metered volumetric billing system. Your meter is read periodically (monthly or bimonthly depending on the city), and your bill is calculated based on actual consumption using a telescopic slab tariff. In Vijayawada, billing happens on a bimonthly basis — you get one bill every two months covering 60 days of consumption.
Domestic Metered Slab Rates (2025-26)
- 0 to 10 KL: ₹5 per KL
- 10 to 20 KL: ₹9 per KL
- 20 to 30 KL: ₹15 per KL
- Above 30 KL: ₹22 per KL
In municipalities that have a functional Underground Drainage (UGD) system, a sewerage charge of approximately 40% of the water bill is added. Many AP cities have upgraded their drainage networks significantly in recent years, so most urban consumers will see this charge on their bills.
Commercial Connection Rates
- 0 to 20 KL: ₹25 per KL
- 20 to 50 KL: ₹40 per KL
- Above 50 KL: ₹60 per KL
Estimated Monthly Bills (Domestic Metered Connection)
| Monthly Usage | Household Type | Water Charge | Sewerage (40%) | Total Bill |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 KL | Single / small household | ₹40 | ₹16 | ~₹56 |
| 15 KL | Average family of 3-4 | ₹95 | ₹38 | ~₹133 |
| 25 KL | Larger household | ₹245 | ₹98 | ~₹343 |
| 35 KL | Large house / garden | ₹465 | ₹186 | ~₹651 |
5 Questions AP Water Consumers Ask Most
1. My city is not Vijayawada — will these rates apply to me?
Rates across major AP cities are broadly similar but not identical. Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Guntur, and Nellore each have their own municipal tariff orders. The figures above are based on the Vijayawada VMC structure and serve as a close approximation for most AP urban consumers. For the exact rate applicable to your area, check your latest physical water bill or visit your municipal corporation’s official website and enter your HSC (House Service Connection) number.
2. Vijayawada sends bills every two months — how does that affect my calculation?
The slabs above show monthly rates. Since VMC bills bimonthly, when checking your actual bill, the 60-day consumption figure will appear. For example, if a family uses 15 KL per month (30 KL bimonthly), the VMC bill will show 30 KL as the billing period consumption. To use this calculator accurately, enter your monthly average consumption (divide the bimonthly figure by two).
3. How do I pay my AP water bill online?
For Vijayawada, visit the official VMC portal at ourvmc.org and go to the e-Payments section, then select Water Charges. You will need your Water Meter Number or HSC Number. The AP Seva portal is the central platform for all AP citizen services including water bill payments across municipalities. Paytm and Google Pay also support AP municipal water bill payments in major cities.
4. Why does my water bill show an Underground Drainage (UGD) charge?
The UGD charge is the sewerage component of your bill — it covers the collection and treatment of wastewater from your home. AP has been investing heavily in expanding underground drainage networks across cities under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. If your area has been newly connected to the UGD network, you will start seeing this charge on your water bill. It is approximately 40% of your water consumption charge.
5. What should I do if my water connection is illegal or unregistered?
Andhra Pradesh runs periodic regularization drives for unauthorized water connections. It is strongly advisable to regularize your connection rather than risk having it disconnected suddenly. Visit your local municipal office with property documents and apply for regularization. The process is straightforward, and most municipalities charge a nominal regularization fee based on connection size.
