Uttar Pradesh Water Bill Calculator – Jal Nigam / Jalkal Rates 2026
Uttar Pradesh is one of those states where “what is my water bill rate?” has no single easy answer. The state does not run a uniform tariff system across all cities. Lucknow Jalkal calculates charges based on the Annual Rental Value (ARV) of your property, cities like Kanpur, Agra, and Varanasi use the UP Jal Nigam metered slab system, while Noida and Greater Noida have entirely separate tariff structures under the Noida Authority.
This calculator is designed to help you get a close estimate based on which billing system your city uses. Select the right category for your area and enter your consumption to see the estimated bill.

UP Jal Nigam Metered Slab Rates – Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi (2025-26)
For domestic households with metered connections under the UP Jal Nigam or local Jal Sansthan, the approximate slab rates are:
- 0 to 10 KL: ₹5 per KL
- 10 to 20 KL: ₹8 per KL
- 20 to 30 KL: ₹12 per KL
- Above 30 KL: ₹18 per KL
A sewerage charge of 50% of the water bill is added in most Jal Nigam-served areas. This brings the effective cost per KL significantly higher than the headline rate.
Lucknow Jalkal – Annual Rental Value (ARV) Based System
Lucknow is unusual because it does not base your water bill on how many kiloliters you consume. Instead, the Jalkal Vibhag (Nagar Nigam, Lucknow) calculates your annual water and sewer tax based on your property’s assessed Annual Rental Value (ARV). The higher the ARV, the higher the annual water tax. To check your exact charge, visit jklmc.gov.in and use the Water/Sewer Tax Calculator with your LNN ID or property details. Approximate monthly equivalents based on ARV brackets:
- ARV up to ₹2,400/year: ~₹50 per month
- ARV ₹2,400 to ₹6,000/year: ~₹120 per month
- ARV ₹6,000 to ₹12,000/year: ~₹250 per month
Estimated Bills at Common Consumption Levels (Jal Nigam Cities)
| Monthly Usage | Water Charge | Sewerage (50%) | Total Bill |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 KL | ₹50 | ₹25 | ~₹75 |
| 20 KL | ₹130 | ₹65 | ~₹195 |
| 30 KL | ₹250 | ₹125 | ~₹375 |
| 40 KL | ₹430 | ₹215 | ~₹645 |
5 Questions UP Water Consumers Ask Most
1. I live in Lucknow — why can I not just enter my KL consumption here?
Because Lucknow Jalkal does not bill you per KL. Your water tax is tied to your property’s Annual Rental Value (ARV), which is an administrative figure based on your property’s size, location, and type. Two households using the exact same amount of water could pay completely different water bills in Lucknow depending on their property assessments. The only reliable way to know your exact charge is through the official Jalkal portal at jklmc.gov.in using your LNN ID.
2. How do I pay my UP water bill online?
It depends on your city. For Lucknow, visit jklmc.gov.in and log in with your LNN ID. For Kanpur, use jalkalkanpur.in. Varanasi has its own Jal Sansthan portal. For Prayagraj (Allahabad), check the Prayagraj Jal Sansthan website. Many UP cities also accept payments through Paytm, Google Pay, and the Uttar Pradesh government’s e-Sewa portal.
3. What is the sewerage charge and can I avoid it?
No — the sewerage charge is mandatory if your area has an underground drainage network. It covers the cost of collecting, transporting, and treating the wastewater that goes down your drains. In most UP Jal Nigam cities, it is set at 50% of your water consumption charges. The only way to reduce it is to reduce your overall water consumption.
4. My water meter has not been read for 3 months — what happens?
In this case, the Jal Nigam typically raises an “average bill” based on your previous consumption history. This can sometimes result in over-billing. Once the meter is read again, any excess amount charged will be adjusted in the next bill. If you notice your meter has not been read, you can report it to the local Jal Sansthan or enter a self-reading through the consumer portal if available in your city.
5. What if my area does not have a metered connection at all?
Many areas in UP, especially in smaller towns and rural zones, still have unmetered or bulk supply connections. In these areas, a flat monthly charge is typically levied by the local body, often ranging from ₹30 to ₹100 per month per household depending on the area. The shift to metered connections is ongoing under the Jal Jeevan Mission, but complete coverage across UP will take several more years.
